LostGeneration - 'Other than that, people have the right to pick their own religion, even if its stupid.' I found your statement interesting. But surely 'choice' needs to be based on accurate inforamtion. If the choice is a result of being deceived is it a proper choice? Certainly in the consumer area we would say not. The principle of caveat emptor or 'buyer beware' has been undermined by legislation that prohibits deceptiove and misleading practices. I think this should also be the case for religion. A lot of mischief is perpetrated under th banner of freedom of choice and freedom of religion. The WBTS is likely a virulent disease, spereading to all conrers of the world and using the legal system and support for 'freedom of religion' to attack any who resist. Data-Dog, your intentions are worthy but unfortunatley I suspect any action will be futile. Fraz

What would you do??
by DATA-DOG ini you knew that jws were ramping up their activities in a new language or foreign field, would you warn the public or the government?
what if it was a nearly virgin territory with almost zero knowledge of jwism?
what if your own jw family was involved?

Wow scotoma - thanks for answering my question. I could tell you had an agenda but I had no idea it would be quite so 'out there' (no pun intended). I could tell you had an agenda because of how hard you were working to shoe-horn events into your preconceived theory. I can tell you based on long years of familiarity with the region that your peace treaty theory is extremely far-fetched but actually in comparison to your Big Brother protector religion/ideology (I am struggling to put a name on it) it appears very reasonable. All I can say is that is far preferable to use the facts to develop and test theories rather than the reverse, which is what you appear to be doing, that is trying desperately to make facts fit your theory. You have the same 'confirmation bias' as the Witnesses. So I see little point in trying to debate with you. I do worry though that you are very vulnerable to being the victim of a cult, if that is not already the case. Good luck, Fraz

Accio - I agree with all the advice you have been given so far. He used you - fancy waiting 5 months to tell you such an important fact about himself and then putting pressure on you to learn about (i.e. adopt) his religion and then jumping to the next girl so quickly after dumping you. He had no respect for you whatsoever, which is how Witnesses are taught to think about 'wordly people'. I am married to a Witness and I can tell you it is very hard when your loved one has more loyalty to a bunch of self-important lying old men in NYC than you. Also they teach that men are basically more important than women and women must obey men. You are so much better to have him out of your life. As others have said you will get over this pain - it is much better than the pain you would have for the rest of your life if you had married this guy. You will find someone esle who you can really trust. Take care, Fraz

I would have thought that means persons disfellowshipped for transgressions less than full on unrepentant apostasy like the good folks on here.

As I jsut noted on another thread - I think all ex or exiting Witnesses should watch The Lives of Others about an East German Stasi agent. It was made in 2006 and should be generally available on DVD - it is an excellent movie and particularly pertinent! Just think of the Stasi operatives as elders!

scotoma - what is the point of what you are saying - that bible prophecy is correct? Am I right in thinking the prophecy to which you are referring is some monumental declaration of peace followed by a cataclysmic reversal? You also seemed preoccupied with this event occurring this year? Am I correct?

yes I agree best not to force the issue but she should try to fully explore what is going on generally when he is exposewd to her ex and address the phobia issue generally and aks questions to get him to think about it and develop critical thinking skills to deal with exposure to phobias.

Bring out the Bodie sis an easier read than the first book 'Wolf Hall' which was hard going initially but enjoyable once I got into it and understood who everyone was. Being familiar with the history of England at the time of Henry VIII and the main personalities would be an advantage. It shows how history can be influenced in a major way by domestic matters, in this case the failure of Henry's wives to bear him a son.
P.S. I am also bored with the Theist v Atheist debate even though I am a confirmed atheist. I don't see the point of trying to convince a Theist that I am right and they are wrong particualrly given that I have failed to convince my wife that the WBTS are manipulative, misleading and deceptive even though I think it is as obvious as the nose on my face.

LisaRose - I don't think 4thgen should put up a white flag on this so readily. Her ex has instilled a phobia in her son which will restrict his freedom of action and his interaction with other kids. She needs to address it now otherwise who knows what other phobias he will instil.

I told my wife after the first visit by an elder to try to rope me in that I didn't want elders in my house and since then not a single visit to shpeherd my wife (thankfully we live a long way away from the KH she attends but if she misses too many meeting sin a row - she will get a call and get guilted into going back. I believe shepherding is a form of subtle bullying.
